Women's Soccer Secures First Win of the Season
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brescia University women's soccer team finally found their stride this weekend with a 3-0 victory over UHSP on the road. Despite losing their last two games 1-0, the Bearcats were able to make up for the losses with a dominate win. This win also marks the first win under new head coach, Andy Hines. The Bearcats extend their record to 1-2 on the season.
The first goal of the year came in the 37th minute off the foot of, and no surprise here, the senior Maci Uffelman. An intercepted pass by Maggie Davis led to a pass sequence from the Bearcats on UHSP's half of the field. Geneva Hann kicked the ball over to her midfielder counter mate in Duda Feres who was able to pop the ball over the defender straight to Uffelman's left foot. The shot looked wide at first but snuck into the right corner for the first goal of the match.
Hann played a big role in the middle for the Bearcats as she nearly had a goal of her own that ricochetted off the crossbar. The next sequence for the Bearcats came off another intercepted pass to Hann. Hann played a through ball to the flanking Uffelman and Isabella McChessney. McChessney was able to get a hand ball call on her deflected pass in the box to grant the Bearcats a penalty kick coming out of the half.
Feres, with a few shots of her own and an assist, chose to take the penalty to net her first goal of the season. The last goal of the match came in the 89th minute off the foot of Uffelman again as she grabs her second goal of the match and season to secure the Bearcat's win, 3-0.
Ashby Greenwell gets her first win in goal of the season as she records three saves.
The Bearcats will head to Elsah, IL to take on Principia College on Saturday, Sep. 7th at 12pm CT.
