HENDERSON, TN – The Brescia University men's soccer team picked up their first draw last night on the road against 5-0-1, Freed Hardeman. This match was a the first one the Bearcats have played without facing a ranked opponent after falling 0-5 to start the season.
BU held the Lions scoreless in the first 40 minutes until FHU broke the tie at the 42-minute mark with the first goal of the match. The Bearcats knotted the score on the Andres Jaime Montoya goal just mere seconds before the end of the first half. A few fouls called on the Brescia defense would lead to a free kick about 20 yards out from the goal. Two of the Lions' shots were deflected before an FHU striker put it in the net to take the lead.
The Bearcats continued to push the ball up field through the next 25 minutes until it finally paid off with a goal from Terense Twihenya on the assist by Federico Munoz in the 78th minute. Now even at two goals apiece, the BU defense gave the Lions ample opportunities to score, but Pau Gelabert kept FHU from taking another lead as the match ends in a 2-2 tie.
Gelabert faced 10 shots on frame, saving eight of them with just two goals against him in his first start for the Bearcats.
