RICHMOND, IN – The Brescia University men's soccer team tied with conference opponent IU-East this past Saturday. They extend their record to 1-12-1 overall and 1-5-1 in RSC play.
Despite winning 2-0 last season against IU-East, the Redwolves were preventing history from repeating itself. It wasn't long until the Bearcats had control of the ball as a shot by Ahmed Abdullahi would result in a corner kick for BU. Adam Byzdra would send the ball into the box right to Lance Dickens who would head the ball into the net as the Bearcats take the 1-0 advantage. The BU defense would keep the Redwolves scoreless through the first half as they head to the locker rooms. IU-East would score two goals in the 63rd and 67th minute to take the 2-0 lead.
With their backs against the wall, the Bearcats knew they needed to score. Adam Byzdra remained involved in the offense as he would net his first goal of the match off the pass from Jose Gutierrez to notch the score at two apiece. The Redwolves were relentless as not even 30 seconds later, they scored their third goal of the match to take the lead. The Bearcats were able to tie the score in the 87th minute as Ezekiel Isom buries a ball in the back of the net on a pass from none other than Adam Byzdra with his second assist of the day.
With no overtime at the NAIA level, the score would remain as finished at the end of the final buzzer. The Bearcats and Redwolves would both record their first tie of the season.
IU-East outshot the Bearcats just 17-2 in the tie with four corner kicks to BU's three. Adam Byzdra stayed busy in the midfield as he recorded two assists and a goal on just three shots. Lance Dickens and Ezekiel Isom both scored one goal apiece while Jose Gutierrez records an assist.
The Bearcats will take on Oakland City for another conference matchup at home on Thursday, October 19th with a kickoff time of 6:30 pm.
