Bearcats Place Fifth at RSC Championship
The Brescia women's cross country team competed at the River States Conference Cross Country Championship on November 6th at IU East.
The Bearcats placed fifth, which is the program's best finish since the 2014 XC season.
Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) led the Bearcats with a third place finish, completing the 5k race in 18:51 on a hilly, challenging course. After the race, Alderton was awarded RSC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors. Alderton also earned one of the six individual qualifying spots for the NAIA National Championship in Vancouver, Washington.
Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI) was the next Bearcat to cross the finish line, placing 25th and running 21:16. Her finishing time was over one minute faster than it was at IU East's invitational earlier this season. Shorkey was also awarded the RSC Champions of Character award.
Soon after Shorkey finished, Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) capped off the best season of her young cross country career, placing 30th with a time of 21:32. She ran faster than her high school 5k PR three times this season.
Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH) was next to finish the race, placing 34th with a time of 21:59. Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats, running a season PR of 22:13 and placing 40th.
Abagale Huelsman (JR/Fort Branch, IN) finished the 5k with a new season PR, running 22:54.
Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY) and Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) completed the race in 25:07 and 25:12.
Mckenzie Severs (JR/Hawesville, KY) and Morgan Curry (SO/Hawesville, KY) rounded out the day for the Bearcats, finishing in 26:52 and 27:15.
The team will take a short break and then return for the 2021-2022 track & field season.
