Bearcats Improve at NAIA Great Lakes Challenge

The Brescia women's cross country team competed at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, which is hosted in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 23rd.

This was the team's largest meet of the season, featuring 247 athletes competing in the 5k White Race. The women raced well, with eight athletes running a season PR (personal record) and two running a career PR.

Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) continued her undefeated streak, improving to four straight wins and going under 18:00 in the 5k for the first time. Alderton improved her career PR from 18:18 to 17:55 in the 5k.

Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI) also had a career PR performance, completing the 5k in 20:43 and improving her PR by one second. Shorkey also improved her best time of the season by 22 seconds.

Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH) was the next Bearcat to cross the finish line, running a season PR of 20:56.

The duo of Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) and Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) rounded out the Bearcats' top five, finishing the race in 22:16 and 22:17, respectively. The time marks a season best for Nicholas, who improved three seconds from the last meet.

Abagale Huelsman (JR/Fort Branch, IN) and Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) finished the 5k in 23:31 and 23:47, respectively. Glaziner's time marks a new season PR for her and her first time under 24:00 this season.

Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY), Mckenzie Severs (JR/Hawesville, KY), and Morgan Curry (SO/Hawesville, KY) all ran season PR's as well, completing the race in 24:43, 25:30, and 25:49.

The Bearcats will be back in action on November 6th at the River States Conference Championship in Richmond, Indiana.
