Bearcats Finish Fourth at Brescia Invitational

The Brescia women's cross country team placed fourth out of 12 at our home meet, the Brescia Invitational, on October 8th at Yellow Creek Park.

The Brescia Invitational marked the second straight race that the women's XC team all ran season PR's.

The Bearcats were led by Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY), who won the 5k race with a season PR (personal record) time of 18:18. Alderton is undefeated on the season, winning all three races that she has competed in.

Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI), Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH), and Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) were the next Bearcats to cross the finish line, all running their fastest time of the season and finishing within five seconds of eachother.

Shorkey ran 21:06 and placed 31st. Vitolo placed 33rd with a time of 21:09. Varnadore completed the race in 21:11, which marked a 46 second career PR for her, and placed 32nd. All three athletes have ran progressively faster each race of the season.

Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats, placing 58th and completing the 5k in 22:19 -- a 1:30 minute season PR.

Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) and Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY) were the next two Bearcats to finish the race, running season PR's of 24:05 and 24:49.
