Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Contest to IU Columbus

OWENSBORO, KY – The Brescia University women's volleyball team took on the Crimson Pride of IU Columbus where the match turned into a five-set battle. IUC succeeded in this revenge game as they won the match in five. The Bearcats extended their record to 7-23 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

The Bearcats started off strong in set one as they jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. Columbus made the set interesting as a four-point run got the Crimson Pride within one of the lead. BU held their composure as three consecutive points gave them the set on win, 25-20. Some miscues on offense led to the set two loss, 25-14, as the Crimson Pride evened the score board at a set apiece.

Despite being down 12-8 in set three, BU surged late to take the next five points to earn them the set win, 25-20. IUC never wavered as they tied the set score yet again, taking the fourth game 26-24.

The fifth and match deciding set came down to just two points as the Crimson Pride came out with the win, 15-13, avenging their five-set loss to the Bearcats previously in the season.

Freshman, Callie Mason, led the attacking front with 18 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. Cheaney Archer led with 35 assists in the match and 18 digs. Katie Fitzgerald dug 21 balls off the court in the five-set battle.

The Bearcats hit the road for the last time this season as they head to #11 IU Kokomo this coming Friday, Nov. 1st at 6pm CT.
