Women's T&F Finish 3rd at Conference Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Brescia University women's track and field team finished an impressive 3rd place out of the 12 conference teams competing in the RSC Championship. This caps off their exciting 2024 competitive season with just one last meet to go.

After breaking records all season long, the Bearcats continued to push the limit in the RSC Championship. The ladies finished in third place behind IU Kokomo and Point Park with a final score of 111 over the course of 22 events. The 4x800 team got the Bearcats started as the team consisting of Mia Grosshans, Victoria Poon, Genesis Ghide-Bryan, and Carmela Shorkey crossed the mark in third place. The 4x100 team consisting of Maliyah Wilson-Taylor, Jordyn Cardwell, Genesis Ghide-Bryan, and Abigail Burgett took the gold in the finals with a time of 48.78. The last of the relay teams in Burgett, Shorkey, Ghide-Bryan, and Wilson-Taylor, the 4x400 team broke a school record by finishing first with a time of 4:04.67.

Burgett finished the 100m hurdles in third with a final time of 16.21, landing her a podium spot. Jordyn Cardwell continued to stay hot on the track as she placed second in the 100m dash to break another school record with a time of 12.16. Cardwell went on to place second in both the long jump and triple jump, and third in the high jump, naming her the highest scoring athlete of the entire meet. Lastly, but certainly not least, Maliyah Wilson-Taylor broke another school record in the 200m dash where she placed second with a time of 25.71.

Ashaunte Watts earned the Champion of Character award this year for the Lady Bearcats to wrap up the competitive season.

The track and field teams will compete in one final meet to end the 2024 season as they travel to the Billy Hayes Invitational this Friday.
