
Lady Bearcats Place Third at RSC Championship
The Brescia women's track and field team competed on Saturday, February 19th at the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, tying the best finish in program history (3rd).
RUNNING EVENTS:
In the 60m prelims, Abigail Burgett (SO/Dawson Springs, KY) and Jeneil Morris (FR/Trinidad & Tobago) qualified for finals with times of 8.28 seconds and 8.31 seconds. Sheyenna Stytz (SO/Ledbetter, KY) also competed in the 60m prelims, running 8.81 seconds.
Burgett set a new school record and earned a spot on the All-Conference team in the 60m finals, running a new personal record (PR) of 8.23 seconds and placing third. Morris also ran a new PR in the event, placing fifth with a time of 8.27 seconds.
In the 60m hurdles prelims, Jordyn Cardwell (FR/Union, KY) and Jada Saunders (JR/Louisville, KY) both qualified for finals. Cardwell ran a new PR of 9.72 seconds, with Saunders also PR'ing with a time of 9.94 seconds.
In the finals, Cardwell placed fifth with a time of 9.73 seconds and Saunders placed eighth with a time of 10.61 seconds.
In the 200m, Burgett placed seventh with a time of 28.41 seconds. Jada Saunders also competed in the 200m, running 28.81 seconds.
Lexi Nicholas (SR/Hawesville, KY) scored a point for the Bearcats in the 400m, placing eighth with a time of 1:04.93. Carmela Shorkey (FR/Macomb, MI) also competed in the 400m, running 1:08.47.
Nicholas earned All-Conference honors in the 600m, placing second with a new PR of 1:46.05.
Breanna Alderton (JR/Owensboro, KY) took home the gold in the 1,000m run, earning an NAIA National Championship qualifying standard of 2:59.95 in the event. Abagale Huelsman (JR/Fort Branch, IN) also earned All-Conference honors in the 1k, placing third with a PR of 3:21.19.
Marianne Glaziner (JR/Terre Haute, IN) competed in the mile, placing 12th with a time of 6:49.61. Hailey Vitolo (JR/Perry, OH) and Katlyn Varnadore (FR/Brighton, TN) ran the 3,000m, completing the event in 12:23.66 and 12:47.86.
Alderton qualified for the NAIA National Championship in her second event of the night in the 5,000m run, placing first with a time of 18:02.73.
In the 4x800m relay, the team of Carmela Shorkey, Hailey Vitolo, Katlyn Varnadore, and Abagale Huelsman placed fifth with a time of 10:54.64.
The 4x400m relay team of Breanna Alderton, Abigail Burgett, Abagale Huelsman, and Lexi Nicholas eanred All-Conference with a second place finish and time of 4:18.89.
FIELD EVENTS:
In high jump, Jada Saunders tied for eighth, clearing 1.35m.
Jordyn Cardwell, Abigail Burgett, and Mallory Toler (SR/Rockport, IN) qualified for finals in long jump. In the finals, Cardwell took home her first RSC Championship medal with a PR of 5.39m. Burgett placed sixth with a jump of 4.86m. Toler placed ninth with a jump of 4.71m.
In triple jump, Cardwell placed third, earning All-Conference honors for the second time of the meet, with a jump of 10.98m. Toler, Alayna Petri (SO/Owensboro, KY), and Sheyenna Stytz also competed in the triple jump, jumping 9.19m, 8.82, and 8.74m.
Ashby Greenwell (FR/Henderson, KY) earned All-Conference honors in shot put, placing second with a throw of 11.55m. Petri also competed in shot put, placing 19th with a throw of 7.59m.
In weight throw, Greenwell placed seventh with a throw of 11.38m.
The Bearcats will be back in action at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship on March 3rd-5th in Brookings, South Dakota.
