Women's Basketball Head to the RSC Semifinal Round Following Win Over Midway
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University Women's Basketball team is headed to the RSC Tournament Semifinals for the first time (excluding the COVID-19 year when all teams made the postseason) since the 2015-16 season. The Lady Bearcats defeated Midway 86-73 to advance to the RSC Semifinal round.
The Lady Bearcats, despite defeating the Eagles earlier in the season, quickly saw themselves down 15-5 to start the first quarter. BU worked their way back as a three-pointer by Hailee Johnson and a jump shot by Jordan Joe tied the game at 19 before the start of the second quarter. Out of the break, Genesis Ghide-Bryan turned the corner off a screen to grab the easy layup. Ameila Mackey found her stroke as she sunk her second three of the game. Back-to-back shot by Shelbie Beatty gave the Lady Bearcats a five-point lead with six minutes left until the half. Graci Risley did what she does best behind the arc putting two threes through the hoop to extend the lead to 35-29.
BU outscored the Eagles 31-11 in the third quarter as the held Midway to just 18% shooting from the floor while shooting 66% themselves. The largest lead of the night for Brescia, a 30-point margin, came at the start of the fourth and final quarter. Midway began their full court pressure forcing the Lady Bearcats into turnover. Yet, the lead that was built by BU was too great as the Lady Bearcats walked away with the 86-73 win in the first round.
Caroline Lucas led the team with 15 points on 6-11 shooting and five assists. Jenna Krampe found her rhythm with another double double adding 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bearcats will head to Portsmouth, OH to take on the #1 seeded Bears of Shawnee State this Saturday at 3pm CT.
