TERRE HAUTE, In. – The Brescia University women's basketball team faced off against division rival, St. Mary of the Woods College, this past Tuesday where they picked up the road win, 68-64. The Bearcats extended their record to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
In this evenly matched contest, the Pomeroys jumped out to an early 13-4 lead over the Bearcats. Jordan Joe got the scoring started with a ball beyond the arc to initiate a Bearcat run. Graci Risley quickly racked up 7 points, scoring on the Bearcats next three possessions, getting BU within one of the lead at the end of the first quarter. Risley tied the score on her second three-pointer of the game in the first three minutes of the second quarter. The Bearcats outscored the Pomeroys 21-12 before the half as they held an eight-point lead.
Halfway through the third quarter, another Risley three-pointer stretched the Bearcat lead to 10. The Pomeroys caught fire in the paint as SMWC tied the game to 53 before the start of the final quarter of play. The Bearcats fought back to get the win in the final minute despite losing the lead late with a final score of 68-64.
Graci Risley led the Bearcat's scoring with 19 points and five threes as Caroline Lucas followed with 14 points. Cassidy Morris and Genesis Ghide-Bryan combined for 15 rebounds and 11 assists for BU in the win.
The Bearcats head to Portsmouth, OH to take on Shawnee State this coming Saturday at 2pm CT.
