OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University women's basketball team dropped to 3-3 in RSC play as they fell to #8 Rio Grande at home, 82-71. The Lady Bearcats extended their record to 11-5 overall.
BU led the ranked opponent in the first half of play as Amelia Mackey's second three of the quarter put the Bearcats up by three. Rio began to pull away in the second quarter as BU struggled from the field, adding just seven points to their total at the break. Despite the Bearcats matching the RedStorm with 46 points in the second half, the lopsided foul count that sent Rio Grande to the line for 34 free throw attempts ultimately pulled BU out of the running in this matchup.
Sharpshooter, Amelia Mackey, led the BU scoring with 19 points and five threes as Caroline Lucas followed with 15 of her own. The Twin Towers in the RedStorm's 6'2 centers kept the paint quiet for Brescia as Jenna Krampe and Cassidy Morris combined for just six points and nine rebounds.
The Bearcats will head to Midway, KY this coming Thursday to take on the Eagles at 6:30pm CT.
