Lady Bearcats Improve to 8-2 Following Win Over Union

KINGSPORT, Tn. – The Lady Bearcats come out on top against the Bulldogs of Union Commonwealth to end the road trip, 78-76. BU extended their overall record to 8-2 on the year.

The Bearcats saw themselves down 12-0 to start the first quarter. Jenna Krampe broke the silence for the Bearcats on her layup down on the block. A three-pointer by Amelia Mackey followed on the next possession as the Bearcats looked to shrink the Bulldog's lead. Only down by six, a missed Bearcat shot led to an offensive rebound by Brooklyn Stewart as she gets sent to the line after a foul. Stewart made both shots at the charity stripe to get the Bearcats within four of the lead. The rest of the second quarter was played from behind for the Bearcats as Union took a 12-point lead with three minutes to go.

A 9-0 run led by Jenna Krampe got the Bearcats within reach of the lead for the second time of the game. Cassidy Morris sank two free throws to end the first half as the Bulldogs lead by just one point.

Morris gave the Bearcats their first lead of the day on more free throws following a foul under the basket. The Bulldogs continued to be lethal from beyond the arc as they continued to battle the Bearcats.

Stewart would lead the Bearcats in the fourth quarter as she put up eight points on 3-4 shooting. Her clutch three pointer gave the Bearcats the momentum they needed to force two Union turnovers to take a two-point advantage. Caroline Lucas sealed the deal with a free throw with five seconds to go as the Bearcats fought back to take the win, 78-76.

Jenna Krampe led the scoring with 16 points on 85% shooting and 4-4 from the line with nine rebounds and five steals. Stewart followed with 14 points, eight in the fourth quarter, with five boards, four assists, and three steals.

The Bearcats will take on the Tornadoes of King University Dec. 12 at 4:30pm CT in Bristol, TN.
