Women's Basketball Battled in Loss to Point Park, 69-60
The Pioneers showed the reason why they are one of the top teams in the conference as they quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes. The Lady Bearcats struggled to get shots to fall as Point Park continued to use the height mismatch under the basket. The Pioneers continued to pound the rock down low while taking advantage of Bearcat missed shots. At the end of the first, the Pioneers had racked up an 18-point lead with three quarters left to play. The guard in Paige Vanzant would take over the Bearcat scoring in the second quarter as the offense tried to shrink the Point Park lead. Vanzant's 10-point quarter would get the Bearcats within nine of the lead as they came storming back from a 16-point deficit before halftime. The BU defense kept Point Park to its lowest scoring quarter of the year (eight points).
The Pioneers would out score the Bearcats in the third quarter, 17-9, as the Point Park shooters began to find their rhythm again. It would all come down to the fourth quarter for the Lady Bearcats as they attempt to combat a 20-point, Point Park advantage. The half court pressure would begin for the Bearcats as they force Point Park to move the ball. The Pioneers would score first in the fourth with a three ball as they try to put the Bearcats away. BU wouldn't go down without a fight as the Lady Bearcats would keep the Pioneers scoreless for the next four minutes. BU fought back with a vengeance as they surged for the lead. Lindsey Peyton's three pointer would get the Bearcats within five points of the lead. In the final two minutes, the Bearcats were forced to foul and put the Pioneers at the charity stripe. Ultimately, the Lady Bearcats would fall to Point Park in a close matchup.
Paige Vanzant led the Bearcats in scoring as her 10-point second quarter would spark her 16-point performance. Courtney Peyton and Lindsey Peyton would also score in double digits as they combined four 14 rebounds.
The Bearcats will travel to Rio Grande, OH to take on the #1 team in conference, the Rio Grande Red Storm, this Thursday with a tip-off time of 4:30 pm CT.
