Softball Sweeps WVU Tech at Home

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team defeated WVU Tech this past Monday. The Bearcats extended their record to 8-18 overall and 7-13 in conference play.

Game 1: Bearcats 7 WVU Tech 0

BU wasted no time in the first two innings as they scored six runs early out of the gate. Mikah Goeppner started off her big day with a single to center to push the first run across. A bases loaded walk scored the second run for the Bearcats in the bottom of the first. BU continued to hammer the ball in the bottom of the second as a ground ball RBI by Berlyn Uken plated the third run of the game. Another single by Goeppner scored her second RBI of the game. Zoe Smithson roped a ball over the left field fence as the fifth and sixth runs come across. Smithson added another single to left center to plate the final run in the matchup.

Felicity Cunningham grabbed her fourth win in the circle as she threw a complete game with just three hits and four strikeouts.

Game 2: Bearcats 6 WVU Tech 4

The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first three innings. Playing catch-up, the Bearcats scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take their first lead of the game. The Bearcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on another Smithson double. Mikah Goeppner goes a perfect 5-5 at the plate with two RBIs, a walk, two stolen bases, and a sacrifice bunt.

Hannah Hailey earned the win in the circle after coming in for relief allowing just one hit and no runs.

The Bearcats will head to Columbus, IN this coming weekend for a conference series against IU Kokomo. First pitch will be Friday, Apr. 11, at 1pm CT.
