Softball Sweeps Crimson Pride at Home

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University softball team swept IU Columbus at home this past Tuesday. The Bearcats extended their overall record to 5-7 and 4-2 in RSC play.

Game 1: Bearcats 2 IU Columbus 1

The battle was in the circle in game one as both pitchers went the distance. The Bearcats got the better of the Crimson Pride when they struck first in the second inning on Maci Merritt's single to centerfield, pushing across the first run of the game. A bunt single by Berlyn Uken allowed BU's second and final run to score of the game. IU Columbus scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on an error as Felicity Cunningham struck out the side to end the game.

Cunningham threw seven complete innings giving up an unearned run and just five hits in the win.

Game 2: Bearcats 8 IU Columbus 6

The Bearcats loaded the bases early in game two as Katy Fisher came to the plate. Fisher tattooed a ball to left field to clear the bases for her first triple of the year. BU added four more runs in the second inning on a passed ball, a sacrifice fly, and a single to extend their lead to seven. The Crimson Pride slowly chipped away at the BU lead as they got within two runs with an inning to go. Savannah Jones came in relief to produce three ground outs to seal the win for the Bearcats.

Hannah Hailey started in the circle earning her first win of the year. The pitching staff of Hailey, Fisher, and Jones allowed nine hits and six run with two strikeouts.

The Bearcats will face St. Mary of the Woods College next with a time and date to be determined due to incoming weather.
