Records Fall For Track and Field at Principia Relays
ELSAH, IL – The Brescia University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Principia College to participate in the Principia Relays where multiple records were broken and set for the Bearcats.
Maliyah Wilson-Taylor got the ball rolling for the Bearcats in the women's 60m dash where she placed 10th out of 44 other athletes while clocking a time of 8.09. She also finished 5th of 39 in the 200m with a time of 27.53. On the men's side, Declan Armistead continues to excel as he broke two records and set one forever in stone for the men's program. Armistead ran the 60m dash with a time of 7.43 placing him 4th all-time in BU history. He finished 33rd out of 64 athletes before preparing for the 200m. His time of 23.83 placed him 4th in history again for BU as he crossed the line in 13th out of 56. The Bearcats have never had a runner race the 500m until Armistead di this past weekend. He now sits at the top of the record books for the 500m with a time of 1:08.94, finishing 7th in a field of 37 runners.
Senior, Jordyn Cardwell also had a fantastic weekend breaking the BU high jump record and the total pentathlon points record. The pentathlon consists of five events: long jump, high jump, shot put, 60m hurdles, and the 800m. Her record breaking high jump broke the school record with a mark of 1.55 m, placing her 2nd out of 5 in the event. The Bearcats have not had an athlete participate in the pentathlon until Cardwell where she posted a score of 2,427, setting the school record.
The Bearcats will travel to Terre Haute, IN to participate in the Blue-White Classic held at Indiana State University this coming Friday for a one day event.
