Aschenbrenner Places 11th at Nationals
Mason Aschenbrenner (SR/Ottumwa, IA) competed at the 2022 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship on March 4th in Brookings, South Dakota.
He took on the 60m hurdles semi-finals, running a new personal record (PR) and new school record, while placing 11th overall in the nation. Aschenbrenner obliterated his initial seeding in the event, improving 14 places in the semi-finals.
"Beginning and ending my indoor collegiate career at a national championship will always be a point of pride. I've slowly made my way up through the national rankings, and am at an amazing starting point for the outdoor season. Placing this high in what is the weaker variant of the sprint hurdles for me is promising," said Aschenbrenner.
He entered the season with a 60m hurdles school record of 8.43 seconds, but improved each meet. He came into the National Championship with a seed time of 8.25 seconds. The Iowa native continued his impressive progression in the event, dropping his time to 8.14 seconds at the Championship.
Aschenbrenner came into this indoor season coming off of a 14th place finish in the 110m hurdles at the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship.
He will now turn his attention toward continuing his progression in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles in the outdoor track & field season. The Bearcats open the 2022 outdoor season on March 18th at the Emory Invitational.
