Men's Soccer Wins in Senior Day Thriller

OWENSBORO, KY – The Brescia University men's soccer team pulled out a close win over St. Mary of the Woods, 2-1. The boys extend their record to 2-13-1 on the year and 2-6-1 in RSC play.

In this senior night thriller, senior Gabe Human would take the first shot of the game. The Pomeroys were able to gain control of the ball from the saved shot and net their one and only goal of the match in the 5th minute. Both teams would remain scoreless going into the half as the Pomeroys hold on to a 1-0 lead. SMWC would foul the Bearcats in the box to allow the penalty kick opportunity as the BU looked to tie the game. Willyan Tartari would line up and net his second PK of the year to knot the score at one apiece.

With the game at a stalemate, a Brescia corner kick would allow a deflected ball towards the top of the box where Elkana Mong'are received the ball. He shot the ball low and, on the ground, as it snuck through defenders and the goalie for the Bearcat's second goal and the lead. The Bearcats continued to keep the Pomeroys' offense away from the ball for the final 20 minutes as they grab the win 2-1 in an impressive performance.

Willyan Tartari records his second goal of the season as Elkana Mong'are records his first. Adam Byzdra also records an assist on the Mong'are goal.

The Bearcat will head to Ohio to take on Shawnee State tomorrow, with a kickoff time of 4pm CT.
