Pomeroys Best Bearcats on the Road
TERRE HAUTE, In. – The Brescia University men's basketball team faced off against division rival, St. Mary of the Woods College, this past Tuesday where they picked up the road loss, 79-74. The Bearcats extended their record to 5-14 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
The Pomeroys opened this contest up by going on an 8-2 run against the Bearcats. After knotting the score, John Saenz shot lights out, making the Bearcat's next three baskets. His and-1 layup took the lead for the first time for BU following the made free throw. The Bearcats played from closely behind the rest of the first half as Saenz led the team with 17 points with four threes.
With five minutes left in the contest and down by seven, Kabryen Tinson got a three ball to hit on the Bearcats next possession. The Pomeroys went to a zone defense leaving Nikola Ticic wide open for a layup as the Bearcats cut the lead to two. Good defense led to a missed jumper by SMWC as Tinson swished yet another three to take the lead. The Bearcats battled back, taking the lead on another three-pointer with under two minutes to play. BU couldn't keep up the momentum as the Pomeroys finished the game at the free-throw line.
Damian Garcia led with 24 points and seven assists as John Saenz followed with 19 points and eight rebounds. Nikola Ticic was the Bearcats next scorer with 10 points off the bench.
The Bearcats travel to Portsmouth, OH this coming Saturday to face Shawnee State at 12pm CT.
