Bearcats Couldn't Hold on to First Half Lead in Loss to WVU Tech

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men's basketball team faced the Golden Bears of WVU Tech this past Thursday night as they took the 74-65 loss. The Bearcats extended their record to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

The Bearcats jumped out early on the Golden Bears as they took a commanding 20-8 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. WVU returned the favor as they countered with an 18-7 run of their own with two minutes left. Back-to-back Kabryen Tinson three pointers maintained the five point lead for the Bearcats going into the break.

Following halftime, each team traded shots until a turnover by the Bearcats led to a fastbreak chance for the Golden Bears. The basket tied the contest at 39 apiece, until a made three gave WVU Tech the lead for the first time since the start of the game. BU's offense ran cold in the final seven minutes the Golden Bears pushed out to a 14-point lead. Ultimately, WVU Tech kept the advantage, taking the win, 74-65.

Damian Garcia led the Bearcat scoring with 16 points, 13 in the second half, as Kabryen Tinson followed with 12 points going 4-5 from beyond the arc. Mike Caswell added 11 points off the bench with two rebounds and two assists.

The Bearcats will take on the Eagles of Alice Lloyd this coming Saturday, Feb. 1st with a tip-off time of 1pm.
