Men's Basketball Competes with #1 Seed in Division

OWENSBORO, KY – The Brescia University men's basketball team fell to 3-8 in RSC play following their 87-77 loss to the Pomeroys of SMWC. The Bearcats extend their overall record to 5-11 on the season.

Taeron Hogg would get the scoring started against the #1 team in the division with a contact dunk over a defender. The Pomeroys were up by four prior to the under 15-minute media timeout as Camden Pfeister would head to the line following a foul. Pfeister would sink both free throws and then make a layup on the other side to tie the game. A fast break by the Bearcats would give the lane all to Alex Burzawa as he grabs the easy layup to tie the score yet again. It was a typical first half shoot-out for both teams until the momentum shifted in favor to the Pomeroys as they took a 41-33 lead at the end of the first.

The Bearcats struggled to warm back up following the intermission as SMWC pushed out to their biggest lead of the night of 14 points at the 15-minute mark. BU would do a complete 180 as they push out on a 11-2 run over the next five minutes. Only down by six the atmosphere in the Moore Center would begin to erupt as the gym rumbled with defense chants. BU would run out of time before trying a miracle run to make the comeback as the Pomeroys walk away with the 87-77 win and remain the #1 seed in the division.

Cory Gardner remains the go-to man as he put up 27 points with four assists and 10-15 shooting from the field. Camden Pfesiter followed behind with 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists on 7-14 shooting. John Saenz managed to be the biggest guy on the floor as he pulled down 12 boards, his career high, along with his 7-point performance.

The Bearcats head to Kokomo, IN this Saturday to face the Cougars with a tip-off time of 2pm CT.
