Baseball Splits with Rochester in Series Finale

OWENSBORO, KY – Day two for Brescia Baseball ended just like the first, in a split against the Warriors. BU struggled in game one, taking a 14-5 loss before beating the Warriors in game two. The Bearcats were victorious in game two, 7-2, behind the pitching of Jonny Foti with a season high 10 strikeouts. The Cats extended their record to 4-12 on the year after the series split.

Game 1: Brescia University 5, Rochester University 14

The Bearcats struck the first blow as they put up three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Warriors kept their bats alive and put up five runs of their own to take a two-run lead. The Bearcats fought in the next few innings, but the Warriors made the lead insurmountable. The Warriors took game one with a final score, 14-5, despite a great offensive game for Demarco Miller. Miller went 2-for-2 with two triples and three runs.

Game 2: Brescia University 7, Rochester University 2

Coming into the second game, the Bearcats woke the bats up early as they put up six runs in the first frame. The scoring party started off the bat of Kendal Kortz as a base clearing triple gave the Bearcats a three-run lead. The scoring wouldn't stop there as Camden Brothers helped the Bearcats tack on two more runs. Brescia scored again off an error as the inning came to an end with a 6-0 advantage. The pitching for the Bearcats fired on all cylinders as pitcher Jonny Foti kept the Warriors off balance all game. Foti went six innings with a season high of 10 strikeouts for the Bearcats. Kortz would add an extra run for the Bearcats in the bottom of the sixth. Closer, Ashton Farris, would close the door on the Warriors late game rally as the Bearcats take game two, 7-2. Kendal Kortz led the offense for the Bearcats as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and two triples. Camden Brothers also excelled in the box going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.

The Bearcats will be back in action next weekend as they open conference play against the Rio Grande University Red Storm at home this Friday for a three-game series. First pitch will start at 2pm CT at Kamuf Park.
