Baseball Splits Series with Rochester on Day One
OWENSBORO, KY – The first home games at Kamuf Park were two great battles between the Rochester Warriors and your Brescia Bearcats. The Bearcats would fall short in the first game of the doubleheader after a Warrior rally late in the game. It would be the second game where the Bearcats found a way to win after trailing the Warriors. Bryce Gamble gave the Bearcats the lead with a two-run bomb as they split the day taking the win, 5-3. The guys improve their record to 3-11 on the season.
Game 1: Bearcats 4, Rochester 5
Game one of the doubleheader started out hot as Mikey Clements drove in a run to give the Bearcats an early one-run lead. The Warriors soon found their footing and put up a four spot in the top half of the third. It looked like the Warriors would take the win after they put up some insurance runs to take the lead, 5-1. In the sixth inning, the Bearcats found some sparks from their offense. Jonny Foti kept his bat hot driving in two runs off a hard-hit single. The Bearcats scored one more from an error as they go into the seventh trailing, 5-4. The Warrior's defense would shut the door on the Bearcat's final efforts to take the game, making the final score 5-4. Jonny Foti would lead the offense with two hits.
Game 2: Bearcats 5, Rochester 3
The second game of the day, the Warriors picked up where they left off and put up three runs in the first four innings. It wouldn't be until the fourth inning where the bats would come alive for the Cats as Camden Brothers would rope his first collegiate hit up the middle to score Kendal Kortz. BU didn't have to wait much longer as Cole Troutman followed up Brothers hit with a double of his own as he pushed Brothers across the plate. This brought the game within one heading into the fifth as the Warriors led, 3-2. The Bearcats soon took the lead in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of Bryce Gamble's two-run homerun to give the Bearcats the lead, 4-3. The Bearcats tacked on another run in the inning to stretch their lead to two runs. A stellar pitching performance out of the pen for Braxton Franey gave BU the insurance needed for the win. Some great performances for hitters, Camden Brothers going 2-for-2 with a walk and Kendal Kortz going 2-for-4. A great day on the mound for starter Manning Webb, only allows six hits, one earned run, and seven strikeouts.
The Bearcats will look to take the series from the Warriors on Sunday, February 25th with another doubleheader starting at 11am CT.
