Softball Splits with Eagles of Alice Lloyd

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - The Brescia University softball team split a pair of games with conference opponent, Alice Lloyd. The Bearcats extend their overall record to 4-8 and 1-3 in conference play.

As the Bearcats make an early trip to Pippa Passes, KY, BU would start the scoring off early in game one. Courtney Peyton would send a line drive back up the middle to get herself into scoring position at second base. Elizabeth Richey then singled through the left side to plate the Bearcat's first run of the game. The Brescia scoring would end there as the Eagles capitalized on an early second inning error to even the score at one apiece. The Bearcats did not yield as a 3-run third inning would give them a 4-1 lead. Both teams would remain scoreless in the fourth until Zoe Smithson would drive in Courtney Peyton for the Bearcat' fifth and final run of the game. Despite adding a run in the bottom of the seventh the Eagles could not convert as the Bearcats take game one 5-2. Raini Gerometta gets the win in the circle for the Bearcats to extend her record to 4-2.

In game two, the Eagles struck early in the first as a hit-by-pitch and a single staged Alice Lloyd for a 2-run double to gain the lead. The Alice Lloyd pitching staff would keep the Bearcats scoreless through four innings as they tack on four more runs to take a 6-0 advantage. The scoring drought would end for the Bearcats as a bases loaded ground ball by Courtney Peyton would force an error by the second baseman to score BU's first run. Back-to-back singles up the middle from Zoe Smithson and Kaylyn Sowders would cut the Eagles lead to two as the comeback for the Bearcats came down to the seventh inning. The Peyton twins would hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning for the Bearcats. Tiara Chandler would sacrifice herself to send the runners to second and third. Sowders would single to left field to knot the score at six going into the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles would walk it off as game two came down to the wire. Keely Eans would get the loss in the circle to extend her record to 1-1 on the year.
