DEFIANCE, OH – The Brescia University women's volleyball team kicked off their 2024 campaign competing in the Racer Yellow Jacket Classic hosted by Defiance College and UNOH. The Bearcats fell to 0-2 on day one after Friday evening's matches. They continue this Saturday against University of Northwestern Ohio and Indiana Northwest.

Game 1: Trailblazer 3 Bearcats 0

The Bearcats kept this match close despite only going to three sets with final scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-23. BU came out on top early in set one with a comfortable 11-5 lead. The Trailblazers surged out onto a 9-1 run to take a two-point lead near the end of the set to take the first set, 25-22. Ohio Christian flipped the script in set two as the Trailblazers seemed to find their rhythm. BU fell just short of the lead despite staying within reach of OCU's advantage. The Bearcats went point for point with the Trailblazers in set three but ultimately came down to who had the serve for the final point. OCU walked away with the match win in three sets.

Game 2: Yellow Jacket 3 Bearcats 0

In match two of the night, the Bearcats continued to push through as they face the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College. A kill by Keianna Alexander got the scoring rolling for the Bearcats as the Yellow Jackets answered rather quickly with a kill of their own. Set one came down the wire as the Bearcats surged late but could not keep DC on their heels. Set two proved challenging as the Yellow Jackets rallied for an early 10-4 lead. The Bearcats struggled to get the ball down on the floor as the front line for Defiance kept the attack at a minimum. Set two would go to the Yellow Jackets, 25-22, as they take the two-set advantage. The Bearcats ran out of steam in set three as they drop the set, 25-13 to finish the night.

Callie Mason led the Bearcat attack with a total of 27 kills while Cheaney Archer assisted 45 times on the night.

The Bearcats continue in the classic this Saturday at 11am and 1pm CT to round out the weekend.
