Grenadiers Spoil Senior Night for the Bearcats

OWENSBORO, KY – As the women's volleyball season winds down for the year, the seniors were honored in their second to last game at home. Despite fighting in the five-set contest, the Bearcats fell as the Grenadiers took the 3-2 set win. BU extended their record to 7-25 overall and 3-12 in RSC play.

This highly competitive matchup was thrilling as both teams traded points on the scoreboard. With the three-point lead in set one, a kill by Callie Mason and a service ace by Campbell McBride gave the Bearcats the first set win, 25-20. Set two went to the Grenadiers as the Bearcats struggled with attack errors.

Set three belonged to the Bearcats as they dominated the Grenadiers at the net, pounding the ball past the defense. IU Southeast never yielded as they took set four, 25-18, to even the sets and send this match in a fifth and deciding set.

Back-to-back kills by Mason gave the Bearcats an early 2-0 lead. The Bearcats were up 6-2 as the Grenadiers started to find their momentum. Three straight points by IUS got them within one of the match win as BU called a timeout. Unfortunately, a block would end the match as the Grenadiers fight back to take the win in five sets.

Katie Fitzgerald had a career and season high of 33 digs while Callie Mason led the attacking front with 20 kills. Cheaney Archer did what she does best and gathered 48 assists on the night.

The Bearcats will host their final game of the season this coming Saturday, Nov. 9th, against St. Mary of the Woods at 2pm.
