Women's Basketball Set to Host Midway in RSC Tournament Quarterfinals

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University Women's Basketball team is set to host the River States Conference Tournament Quarterfinals against Midway University Eagles Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 6pm CT in The Den. This is the first time since the 2020-21 season that the Lady Bearcats have hosted the RSC Quarterfinals where they defeated IU Southeast to advance to the Semifinals. Prior to that season, BU had not hosted since the 2015-16 season against Point Park.

Off to their best start in program history (since digital stats were available in 2003), the 17-9 Lady Bearcats defied all odds with one of the youngest teams in the RSC. Along with this new look team came a new coach in Head Coach, Nick Chaykowsky. Coach C was appointed three games into the Lady Bearcats season last year where they finished 6-21 overall and 1-17 in conference play. After the season, Coach C and his staff recruited 14 new athletes, with more than half residing in Kentucky, to this new and improved team.

The #2 seeded Lady Bearcats will host the #3 seeded Eagles of Midway University (16-12; 10-6 RSC) in the Quarterfinal Round. BU previously faced the Eagles this season where they defeated the East Division squad, 71-69. Caroline Lucas led all scorers with 23 points on 8-13 shooting from the field. Jenna Krampe, the nation's leader in field goal percentage, had 12 points on 5-7 shooting along with four rebounds. Midway's starters totaled just 37 points with Jermyra Christian and Atlantis White combining for 15 of those 37 points. Jacie Chesser put up 16 off the bench for the Eagles in her 30-minute performance. The Lady Bearcats shot 48% from the field opposed to the Eagles' 37% while also winning over the paint battle outscoring Midway, 42-30.

The Lady Bearcats kept their conference opponents to just a 36% field goal percentage and a 26% three-point percentage, ranking them first in the RSC for both statistics. BU averages 73.2 points per game while the Eagles average 78.4.

This evenly matched event will take place in The Den on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6pm CT.
