Women's Basketball Picks up 20-point Win Over Welch

The Bearcats were slated to win this game by a large margin, but the Flames weren't going to make it easy. The first quarter was evenly matched between the two teams as they each traded buckets. BU wouldn't take their first lead until the three-minute mark as Paige Vanzant would sink two free throws. The offense would find their groove in the final minutes to take a 16-9 lead. The second quarter was all the Flames of Welch as they outscored the Bearcats 15-11 to cut the BU lead to just three before halftime.

BU would start with their half court pressure coming out of the first half, forcing Welch to turn the ball over on their opening possession. Paige Vanzant would net a long ball behind the arc as she comes around a couple of screens for the wide-open shot. Another quick turnover by the Flames would lead to a fast break layup for Courtney Peyton as she gets two of her 11 second half points. Another three pointer on the same play from Vanzant would give the Bearcats their largest lead of the day with an 11-point advantage. Brescia started to pull away from the Flames at the end the third quarter with 19 points. The turnovers and missed shots by the Flames gave the Bearcats 19 points over the entire game as BU forced 25 turnovers. Ultimately, the Bearcats would take the win 61-41 for just their fifth win of the season.

Courtney Peyton led the pack with 15 points, 11 of those in the second half, while shooting 5-9 from the field and 4-7 from the stripe. Paige Vanzant scored 13 points on 4-9 shooting, 2-5 from three, with four steals. Genesis Ghide-Bryan put up 12 points off the bench on 5-8 shooting and 2-2 from beyond the arc.

The Lady Bearcats will stay home for the weekend as they take on Oakland City for another RSC matchup this Saturday with a tip-off time of 1pm CT.
