Men's Basketball Claims First Win in Overtime Victory

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Men's Basketball grabbed their first win of the season in the overtime thriller against the 3-1 Eagles of Williams Baptist after falling to Crowley's Ridge over the weekend. BU extended their record to 1-2 following the 1-1 road trip in Arkansas.

Both teams had a low scoring first half in the road trip finale for the Bearcats as they took on the Eagles. The Bearcats shot a low of 34% from the field in the first half as Damian Garcia and Marcos Mejia led the team's scoring, combining for 15 points. The Bearcats forced nine turnovers in the first half as the Eagles held a one-point lead going into the half.

The Bearcats, desperate for their first win, maintained a five-point lead over the Eagles through the first 13 minutes of the second half. An unfortunate foul call beyond the arc against the Bearcats would put a WBU shooter at the line for three shots to get the Eagles within one of the lead. An and-one layup by Garcia looked to the seal the win for BU, but an Eagles three as time expired sent this matchup into overtime.

BU was able to knock down free throws to ice the game and take the road win, 82-79

Garcia led the offense with a season high of 34 points along with four rebounds and five steals. John Saenz was five assists away from his first triple double as he grabbed 12 boards to go with 15 points and five assists. Nikola Ticic and Linkin Lockhart added 21 points off the bench in the victory.

The Bearcats head to the Campbellsville Classic in Campbellsville, KY this coming weekend as they face-off against #16 Cumberlands on Friday at 4pm and then against Campbellsville Saturday at 2pm.
