PITTSBURGH, PA – The Brescia University women's soccer team began conference play with a road game against Point Park. The Lady Bearcats drop the contest 4-1 to extend their record to 1-5 and 0-1 in RSC play.
The Pioneers of Point Park lead the all-time series against the Bearcats since their first contest in 2017. This revenge-stricken game would start out intense as Point Park would take immediate possession as their first shot would come within the first minute of play. There was no defensive shortage on the side of the Bearcats as a nice save by midfielder, Mia Grosshans, would prevent the Pioneers from netting the ball. Grosshans would make two great saves defensively as she backs Ashby Greenwell in between the posts. The Pioneers first goal would come in the 34th minute on a ball dropped right over the Bearcat defense into the feet of a Pioneer attacker. With the 1-0 advantage, Point Park would net their second goal in the 44th minute to take a two-goal lead before the half.
The Bearcats would look to capitalize in the second half to cut the Pioneer lead in half. Unfortunately, Point Park would net their third goal of the match within the first two minutes in the second half. Brescia would ramp up the offense as they start to play more aggressively to take possession of the ball. That aggression would pay off as Maci Uffelman would find herself on the far side of the field to net her first goal of the season off the foot of teammate, Duda Feres. The Point Park defense played relentlessly as they tried to keep the BU offense away from the ball. The Bearcats had ample opportunities to net a second goal but could not convert as the Pioneers would tack on their fourth goal in the 86th minute to finish the match with the 4-1 lead.
Ashby Greenwell picks up her fifth loss in the net to extend her record to 1-5 on the year. She accumulated 16 saves on 20 shots while only relinquishing four goals. Maci Uffelman scores the lone goal for the Bearcats on three shots.
Women's soccer will finish their road trip at Ohio Christian for another RSC matchup Saturday with a kickoff time of 3:30 pm CT.
