CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Brescia University Baseball team split a pair of a games on the road at Campbellsville University. The Bearcats took game one with a final score of 3-0 as the Tigers bounced back to take game two, 4-1. BU improved their record to 6-1 on the season following the matchup.
Game 1: Bearcats 3 Tigers 0
Both teams started strong on the bump in this early week matchup, but the Bearcats were able to get their first win over Campbellsville since the 2022 season. Peyton Cary started for the Bearcats, going just two innings with a strikeout and a walk as Brian Gonzalez pitched the next three allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.
BU struck first following a Tigers pitching changed as Jonny Foti broke the tie with a homerun over left field. Bryce Gamble flared a ball along the right field line to score Gavin Huebner from second as a passed ball later in the inning scored the third and final run for the Bearcats.
A combined one hitter for the pitching staff was the difference as Brian Gonzalez got his second win of the season. Cason Troutman came in for the final two innings to get the save.
Game 2: Bearcats 1 Tigers 4
The Tigers avenged their loss as they defeated the Bearcats 4-1 in game two of the afternoon. The CU starter pitched five innings with just one hit and five strikeouts as the Bearcats struggled to adjust at the plate. Gavin Huebner and pinch hitter Braden Mundy were the only Bearcats to notch a hit as Mundy drove in the only run for in the seventh inning.
Christian Pinson grabbed the loss on the bump extending his record to 1-1 as he allowed two hits, two runs, and a walk in two innings of action.
The Bearcats will start conference play this coming weekend against Shawnee State for a three-game series. The series will be played at Chautauqua Park starting on Saturday at 3:30pm CT.
